Refund or payment. That is the question. Jack Daunt of Sarasota, Fla. was in town this week with his wife, the former Julia Pearson, setting up hou sekeeping near Pearson’s Falls. He was sizing up North Caro lina's income tax forms (Flo rida's constitution prohibits an income tax), and noticed something interesting. North Carolina asks that we declare all "interest income from obligations of slates other than North Carolina." With his own trained eye as a holder of a doctorate degree in law, Daunt said he believes he wouldn't declare his income from Den ver, Colo, municipal bond interest, nor any other tax-free bond payments from obliga tions of municipalities, counties, public authorities and the like. The N.C. lax form very clearly says “states other than North Carolina." One can only wonder if the N.C. Department of Revenue would find Daunl's precision with language amus ing. General Evaluator Dave Slater will have Frank Palumbo, Julie Davis and Steve Strickland as his Speech Evaluators. Dan Marloy will serve as Gram- merian, John Flanagan, Timer. President At the April 4 meeting of the Polk County Unity of the American Heart Association, Chairman H. Bruce Palmer first called for a moment of silence in remembrance of the recent, untimely deaths of Iwo of the most valued and respected members - the president. Rob ert E. Hall and the information officer. Frederick P. Harvey. Harold "Bud" Shively, a rela tive newcomer to the area, was elected to be the new president. Bud brings an impressive back ground to help him in this capacity. In addition to his years as president of two televi sion stations, he found time while living in Grand Rapids for public service on the boards of Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, the John Bal) Zoo logical Society as well as chair man of "Polio-Plus." Dawson, son of Verne and Doris Dawson of Tryon, recently enlisted into the Air Force's delayed enlistment program, according to SSgl Mark Ware, the local Air Force Recruiter. Victor, a '87 graduate of Greer High School, is scheduled for enlistment into the regular Air Force in May. Upon graduation from the Air Force's six week basic training course at Lack- land Air Force Base, near San Antonio, Texas, he will receive technical training in his desig nated career area. Victor will earn credits toward an associate degree in applied sciences through the Community College of the Air Force while attending basic and technical training schools. —Community Reporter Buys Condo Nancy W. Ernst recently bought the Belvedere condo C-1, the former Crossman estate from Margaret Protzman. the executor, from New York Penny Kessler was the listing agent, and Carolyn Pierce the selling agent.
